An open environment is a product market dominated by buyers demanding open assets (e.g., code, hardware designs, content, scientific knowledge, development processes). Examples of open product markets include telecommunications, tropical diseases, computing, geographical information systems, modelling and simulation, integrated circuits, education, content management systems, and many, many others.
